Family to Family Support Network helps women facing an unplanned pregnancy.
In the United States, half of pregnancies are unplanned. Where is a woman to go for information and resources as she faces a decision regarding her pregnancy? If she decides to carry the pregnancy to term, she can then look to creating her parenting plan or can explore the option of adoption. Processing her options with a Family Liaison at the local hospital is an excellent option and one we would like to make available in every community. After establishing prenatal care, the Liaison can share parenting resources in the community and a mother can begin to prepare for the arrival of her child. If she would like to explore adoption, ethical adoption resources would be offered from which she can choose to follow up for additional information. Having a third-party as a support person will help to build confidence in the complex situations that can arise with unplanned pregnancies. True choice is created when we strive to offer all options equally, with a neutral, compassionate support person alongside our patients, if needed.
