Family to Family Support Network educates the adoption community.
There are so many people impacted by adoption. It is estimated that 7% of the population is adopted and 60% of the population is directly impacted by adoption. And while the concept of the “adoption triad” is often discussed to include the birth parents, the adoptive family and the child, it is becoming more and more clear that those involved in an adoption plan are much more of a constellation instead of a neat, tidy triangle. The ripple effect of an adoption plan is far reaching and unpredictable, as each situation is unique. It often includes grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, friends, extended family members, etc. All of us often have a limited view of adoption – unless we back up and hear from multiple perspectives. Understanding each unique perspective helps us all navigate the journey of adoption and ultimately love our children well.
The Adoption Community is a complicated one. Emotions range from unsurpassed joy to unspeakable pain, and are often in flux. Adoption is impacted by loss and the best tools for healing are education and validation. To understand the journey empowers one to walk it with conscious awareness of the complicated dynamics.
The Family to Family Support Network offers you information and a place to connect with others to walk alongside you on this path. Our articles, radio shows and featured blog posts are intended to value all impacted by adoption, respecting the diversity present. There are no ‘suffering scorecards” here. Pain is pain and joy is joy— and we ask you to respect one another and strive to learn from different perspectives. Looking at adoption from multiple points of view widens our understanding, encourages healing, and helps us love our children well.
