For this week’s show Rebecca is talking with a birth mom (or “first” mom) and an adoptive mom, each who has a large online presence and two women you might think, at first, would be at odds in the sometimes contentious Online Adoption World. Claudia D’Arcy of Musings of the Lame (http://www.adoptionbirthmothers.com/m…) relinquished her son in 1987, reunited with him in 2006, and advocates for ethical adoption, alerting her readers to the subtle and coercive tactics employed by some adoption professionals.
In the other corner is adoptive mom Lori Holden of LavenderLuz (http://lavenderluz.com), author of the newly released book, “The Open-Hearted Way to Open Adoption: Helping Your Child Grow Up Whole,” written with her daughter’s birth mom (http://bit.ly/open-adoption).
Claudia and Lori came to adoption on opposite sides of the issue but have found common ground in listening to others in the adoption triad, especially adult adoptees. They have become friends and allies in advocating for openness in adoption, ethical practices, and in restoring civil rights for adopted people.
